A manageable half-day out of Tokyo, following a forested ridge through Konpira-san and Asoyama before the final climb to Hinodeyama (902m). The summit has a wide open view stretching to the Tokyo skyline on a clear day. The descent drops down to Tsururu Onsen, where you can soak and eat before heading back to the city.
A good step up from a beginner event without being overwhelming. No technical terrain, just solid trail running with a rewarding finish.

Level: Upper Beginner (2/5) - you should be comfortable on your feet for 3-4 hours and have an interest in moving at a trail running pace. No technical experience required.

Getting there: Take the JR Chuo Line to Tachikawa, then the JR Itsukaichi Line to Musashi-Itsukaichi Station. From Shinjuku the journey takes around 75 minutes.
